Budget forecast

The Budget forecast feature allows you to anticipate project costs and manage financial planning more effectively. Forecasts provide visibility into expected expenses, helping you stay on track with your target budget and avoid surprises.

Adding a forecast

To create a new forecast, click the "Add Forecast" button. A dialog will open where you can:

  • Enter a name for the forecast (e.g., "Q1 Estimate").

  • Specify the forecasted amount to be allocated.

Once saved, the forecast will appear in the budget view, and you can compare forecasted amounts against actual costs to ensure alignment.

Linking costs with forecast

Costs can be directly linked to a forecast for more accurate tracking. When adding or editing a cost item, you can assign it to a specific forecast. This ensures that every expense is categorized correctly and reflected in the forecast totals.

By linking costs to forecasts, Budgety helps you monitor planned vs. actual expenditures, allowing for proactive financial adjustments throughout the project lifecycle.

Editing, duplicating, and deleting a forecast

Each forecast in your budget features an action menu, enabling you to:

  • Edit: Refine or update the forecast's name or forecasted amount, using the same form used for adding a new forecast.

  • Duplicate: Create a new forecast with the same data as the original — name (saved as "Copy of [original forecast name]"), forecasted amount, and spent amount. The linked cost is left empty, so you can associate it with a different cost as needed.

  • Delete: Remove a forecast entirely if it was added in error or is no longer applicable.
